A bed sheet is an essential part of any bedding set, ensuring both comfort and hygiene. In our collection, you'll find both fitted sheets with elastic for a secure fit and classic flat sheets without elastic. We offer a variety of sizes, colors, and fabrics – from natural cotton to luxurious satin and microfiber. Choose high-quality sheets and enjoy a comfortable night’s sleep!
How to Choose the Right Fitted Sheet
A fitted sheet is often an overlooked but essential part of your bedding. It's in direct contact with your skin all night, so the fabric, size and type have a real impact on the quality of your sleep. This guide covers everything you need to know to choose the sheet that best suits your needs.
Fitted vs Flat Sheets: What's the Difference?
A fitted sheet stretches over the mattress with elasticated corners, staying securely in place all night without slipping or bunching up. This is especially practical for restless sleepers, as well as for double and king-size beds. The elasticated edge is usually either a full band running around the entire sheet or fitted only at the corners. We stock both versions.
A flat sheet is the classic, versatile option. It can be laid over the mattress and under the top layer of bedding, or used as a top sheet. It's easier to wash and iron, and works well with close-fitting mattresses or hotel-style bedding.
Waterproof Sheets: What Are They For?
Waterproof sheets are a practical solution for families with young children, older adults, or anyone caring for an unwell relative. The inner waterproof membrane protects the mattress from moisture, while the soft microfibre surface keeps the sheet comfortable against the skin. A mattress is a significant investment, and a waterproof sheet is the simplest way to protect it.
Mattress Protectors: Extra Comfort and Protection
A mattress protector sits directly on the mattress and under the fitted sheet, adding softness, absorbing moisture and extending the mattress's lifespan. It's particularly recommended if your mattress feels too firm, or if you simply want extra protection for a more expensive investment.
Sheet Fabrics: Which One to Choose?
The fabric determines how a sheet feels against the skin, how breathable it is, and how easy it is to care for. At Savas Home, we offer several of the most popular fabrics:
100% cotton – highly recommended for sensitive skin and children. Natural, breathable, absorbs moisture well and easy to care for. Suitable all year round.
Cotton jersey – soft, stretchy and very comfortable. Wraps around the body like a T-shirt, ideal for restless sleepers. The elasticated edge adapts to any mattress depth.
Microfibre satin – gentle sheen, soft to the touch, budget-friendly. Lightweight and quick-drying. A great everyday choice.
Premium satin – luxurious, silky surface with a rich sheen. Especially suited to those who value aesthetics in the bedroom. Long-lasting, though it requires slightly more care.
Cotton flannel – warm, soft and perfect for winter. Flannel provides more warmth than lightweight cotton, making it ideal for colder nights or cooler bedrooms.
Microfibre – lightweight, hypoallergenic and very easy to care for. A great alternative for anyone with allergies or a preference for low-maintenance fabrics.
What Size Sheet Should You Choose?
Your sheet size should match your mattress dimensions. As a general rule, a fitted sheet should be the same size as the mattress, or at least 10–15 cm larger on each side, so the elastic reaches the corners comfortably. The most common UK mattress sizes are:
- 90×190 cm – Single
- 135×190 cm – Double
- 150×200 cm – King
- 180×200 cm – Super King
- 200×200 cm and above – Emperor and other extra-large formats
If your mattress is deeper than 20 cm, choose sheets with deeper corners, or opt for jersey sheets, which are stretchy and adapt to any mattress height.
How to Care for Your Sheets
We recommend washing sheets every 1–2 weeks at 40–60°C to maintain hygiene and extend the fabric's lifespan. Cotton and jersey sheets can be machine washed easily; flannel is best washed at a lower temperature to prevent shrinking. Satin and premium satin sheets should be washed with a mild liquid detergent, without fabric softener, to preserve their sheen. Waterproof sheets should be washed at 60°C to ensure hygiene and maintain the integrity of the waterproof membrane.
