Down duvets

Yes, most down duvets can be machine-washed at 30–40°C on a delicate cycle. Always check the care label.

It is recommended to wash it 1–2 times per year. Use a duvet cover – this reduces how often the duvet itself needs washing and helps protect it.

This is normal – the down becomes wet and compresses together. The solution is to tumble-dry the duvet with tennis balls or, when air-drying, turn it regularly and gently break up the clumps.

Goose down is generally larger, loftier and has a higher fill power. Duck-down duvets are usually more affordable but can also be high quality. The most important indicator is fill power, not the type of down.

Fill power measures how much volume 30 grams of down occupies. 500–600 indicates good quality, while 700+ indicates high quality. The higher the fill power, the lighter and warmer the duvet.

It depends on the type of allergy. If you are allergic to materials of animal origin, a down duvet is not suitable. In that case, choose a hypoallergenic synthetic or bamboo duvet.

Wash it before storing and keep it in a cotton storage bag rather than a plastic one. Store it in a dry, well-ventilated place. Do not compress it in vacuum bags.
