Where to find textile collection points?
Textile collection points are most often found at waste sorting sites, near larger shopping centres or in other locations indicated by the local municipality.
We recommend checking the exact information on your city or district municipality’s website. You can also find the nearest location by opening Google Maps and searching for: “textile collection point” or “textile container”.
What happens to old bedding when you hand it in?
Old bedding that ends up in mixed household waste usually goes to the same place as all other household rubbish – a landfill or a waste incineration facility. Textiles, especially those made from synthetic fibres, can take a long time to break down, while the dyes and additives used in their production can remain in the environment far longer than we would like.
Textile collection points exist so that such textiles can be collected separately. Both textiles that are still suitable for use and worn-out textiles can be handed in. They are then sorted according to their next purpose – one part may be reused, while another is sent for recycling or other responsible handling.
If there is no textile collection point nearby – you can still get a discount
If there is no textile collection point near you, do not throw old bedding into mixed household waste. Check the information provided by your city or local municipality – it usually explains where textiles can be handed in.
You can hand in old bedding or other home textiles by:
- taking them to a waste sorting site or bulky waste collection site, if textiles are accepted there;
- giving them to a charity organisation or reuse point, if the textiles are still clean and suitable for use;
- giving them to people, animal shelters or other organisations, if they need such textiles.
Textiles should be clean, dry and placed in a bag. Do not leave them next to containers or in public places.
