When Should You Change Your Bedding?
When should you replace your pillow, duvet, and bed linen?
We often don’t think about when it’s time to renew our bedding. Should we wait until it’s completely worn out? In fact, like many other products, bedding has its own “expiry date.”
When to replace a pillow?
A pillow is important not only for comfort but also for keeping your spine aligned while you sleep. Over time, it absorbs sweat, skin cells, and oils – creating the perfect environment for dust mites.
Signs it’s time to replace your pillow:
-
Filling has become lumpy and uneven.
-
You wake up with neck or shoulder pain.
-
Hard to find a comfortable sleeping position.
-
Sneezing or allergy symptoms appear.
-
Pressed pillow returns slowly to its shape.
When to replace a duvet?
Duvets last longer than pillows but also collect dirt. They should remain light, breathable, and comfortable. If you share your bed with pets, you may need to replace your duvet sooner.
Signs it’s time to replace your duvet:
-
Filling has collapsed and lost shape.
-
Edges or corners feel thinner.
-
The duvet becomes heavy, stained, and uncomfortable.
-
Itching or allergic reactions while sleeping.
When to replace bed linen?
Even with regular washing, fabric wears out. If you notice skin irritation, excessive sweating, or allergies, it’s time for a new set.
Summary: Replace your pillow every 2 years, duvet every 5–7 years, and bed linen depending on condition and comfort.
