Why is the composition of children's bedding more important than you think?
A colourful duvet with a favourite character – that's the first thing a child notices. But what they don't notice – and what parents often don't think about – is what that duvet is made of. It's precisely the material that determines whether a child wakes up happy and rested, or with itchy skin and poor sleep.
A child's skin is not an adult's skin
This sounds simple, but has great practical significance. Children's skin is thinner, more sensitive and more easily absorbs what it comes into contact with. Synthetic fabrics, chemical dyes or poor-quality polyester can cause:
- Skin redness and itching
- Increased sweating
- Unpleasant, restless sleep
Therefore natural, breathable fabrics – not a luxury, but a necessity.
Cotton – why does it dominate children's bedding?
It's not without reason that almost all high-quality children's bedding is made from 100% cotton. It:
- Lets the skin breathe and prevents moisture build-up
- Is hypoallergenic – suitable even for allergic children
- Is easy to wash at high temperatures
- Becomes softer over time
During cooler months, flannel works wonderfully – warm, soft and with a cosy texture reminiscent of a cloud.
Let the child choose
Here is one small but very important piece of advice: involve the child in choosing the bedding. Whether they are 4 or 12 years old – let them choose the colour or pattern. This not only creates a sense of cosiness but also helps the child go to bed more easily – after all, their beloved dinosaurs or stars are in their bed.
Solid pastel colours suit both boys and girls and complement any room. Bolder patterns with animals or characters – an excellent choice for children who need that special motivation to sleep.
Good sleep = good day
A well-rested child is happier, more energetic and easier to get along with. And although it sounds obvious – the right bedding really does contribute to sleep quality. Breathable fabric regulates temperature, soft texture soothes and a cosy environment helps you fall asleep faster.
When choosing children's bedding, the most important criteria are simple: natural material, easy care and a child who goes to bed willingly. Everything else is details.
